Lead Engineer – SaaS / AI Transformation

I’m working with an established UK SaaS business that is entering an exciting new phase of its technology journey.

Having historically outsourced the development and maintenance of its platform, the business has made the strategic decision to bring its technology capability in-house – and we’re looking for a Lead Engineer to play a pivotal role in making that happen.

The Opportunity

This is much more than taking ownership of an existing platform.

You’ll have the opportunity to help shape the future technical direction of the business, taking greater ownership of the SaaS platform while driving the practical adoption of AI across both engineering and product workflows.

The business wants to use AI to:

• Improve engineering and development velocity
• Accelerate the delivery of change requests
• Automate existing platform workflows and processes
• Identify new opportunities for AI across the product
• Build a more efficient and scalable technology capability

Initially, this will be a hands-on position with significant technical ownership. As the in-house capability develops, the intention is to build a small engineering team around you, giving you the opportunity to influence the technology, engineering practices and future team from an early stage.

Technology Environment

Languages: C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, SQL, Python, Bash, PowerShell

Frontend: Angular

Backend: .NET, .NET Core, .NET Framework, ASP.NET MVC, Entity Framework Core

Cloud & Infrastructure: AWS – Lambda, EC2, Elastic Beanstalk, S3, SQS, SNS, SES, RDS, VPC, Secrets Manager and ElastiCache – plus Docker

Database: Microsoft SQL Server

What We're Looking For

We’re not expecting someone to have worked with every technology listed above.

The ideal person will bring:

• Strong commercial C#/.NET engineering experience
• Good experience working within AWS environments
• Experience with Angular/TypeScript or modern frontend development
• Strong understanding of SaaS platforms and software architecture
• Hands-on experience applying AI within a real-world software environment
• The ability to take technical ownership and make pragmatic engineering decisions
• An interest in helping build and shape an engineering capability rather than simply joining an established team

Previous experience introducing AI into software development, SaaS products or workflow automation would be particularly valuable.
